It Actually Snowed

A few weeks ago, New Year’s weekend, as I woke up from a good night’s sleep, I noticed the glow coming in from outside was rather strange. I hadn’t opened my curtains yet, and I didn’t look out my kitchen window when I was making my breakfast. I just thought, the pollution must be really bad today or something…

Then, later that morning, I was talking with my parents online, and they were telling me about all the snow they got in Nebraska. So, I was telling them about how Beijing “never gets snow.” However, I also mentioned to them that the weather seemed strange that day, but that I hadn’t seen what it was like out yet.
After I signed off with them, I went into the kitchen; as I looked out the window, I realized why the weather seemed odd. It was snowing! I was excited to see the frosty flurries, so I quickly bundled up and ran outside to snap some pictures of my apartment area with snow! Yeah!

The snow stayed a nice pure white in the mini-park behind my place until the snow finished melting this past week, but the sidewalks and streets were immediately a mess of black and brown slop. Riding my bicycle in the slough with snow flakes flying in my face was certainly an adventure! You never know what you’re going to wake up to in China!
